Use Klaviyo's sending tools
In Klaviyo, you can immediately send a campaign or select a time for your campaign to send. When you schedule a campaign, you can choose from a fixed, gradual, or smart send time.
One important question remains: when is the best time to send your campaign? Klaviyo offers 2 sending tools that identify the best times to reach your customers. Let’s learn how Beantown uses these tools, as well as the main scheduling modal, to target their audience at the right time:
Avoid over messaging recipients with Smart Sending
Before you send an email, Smart Sending checks if a profile recently received an email from your brand.
Keep in mind, it will not check for recent text messages or push notifications. This applies to all marketing channels; if you send a text message, it will only check for other text messages. Smart Sending ensures subscribers receive the right amount of messages from your brand over a period of time.
Note: The default Smart Sending window of time for email is 16 hours, while for text messages and push notifications, it’s 24 hours. Learn more about Smart Sending.
Use Smart Sending to:
- Avoid overwhelming customers.
- Prevent accidental double sends.
- Run multiple A/B tests without over-sending to a recipient.
For example, if Beantown sends a promotional email at 8 a.m. and creates an A/B test for their newsletter at 3 p.m., all subscribers who received the first promotional email will be skipped from receiving the newsletter at 3 p.m. This allows Beantown to create an A/B test without sending multiple campaigns to the same recipients.
Take advantage of the Smart Send Time feature
Klaviyo’s AI tool helps you determine the ideal send time for your audience(s). Smart Send Time is a series of tests that determine the time when the highest number of people open your emails, making it easier for you to reach your email subscribers during optimal times that lead to higher engagement.
Note: Smart Send Time tests can only be conducted for campaigns with a recipient list of 12,000 profiles or greater.
Identify scheduling options for your campaigns
When you schedule or send a campaign, you must choose between sending immediately and selecting a time in the future to send your campaign. Before sending, double check your content is correct and consider your recipients local timezone.
To make scheduling easier for you, choose between a fixed, gradual, or smart send time in the Type menu.
- Fixed send time
Select this option if you want all recipients to receive your message at a specific date and time. - Gradual send over several hours
Select this option to send your message to a selected percentage of your recipients over time. Keep in mind, you cannot use this strategy if you're A/B testing the campaign.
In this example, Beantown selects Gradual send over several hours. Their new email campaign will send to 20% of their customers every hour over a 24-hour period.
